Do you think the hair rig will ever be improved upon as a rig? By this I dont mean new variations of the hair rig but do you think anything will be invented as revoluntionary and different as the hair rig was at the time it was invented?

Or maybe it exists now and we dont know about it !

I fished almost all year last year with Bait Stop flavored sweetcorn right on the hook and caught a ton of fish so I many different rigs, some simple, some complex, they all have their applications.

But as far as versatality, ease of tying, and effectiveness, I don't think that it can be duplicated.

Hands down, the simplest, most effective rig.

I think maybe a specific hook design could be out there that has not already been tested for carp...

Not sure as there are different styles that require different gear so whatever else is out there may not apply for all applications.

Basically what Don said... :D

When I first got back into carp fishing I became caught up in the so called Tecnique of cap fishing. The right rig, bait, gear, methods, etc. I now realize that almost anything will work. It's time to think outside the envelope. Keep it simple. Be inovative. Be creative. Catching carp is not rocket science. I think that sometimes it appears more complex then it really is, and that sometimes intimidates new comers to this sport. I caught carp 60 years ago when I didn't know anything about carp fishing using only a dough ball on a hook and a cane pole.
Just an old man's opinnion.

I think a hook design aimed at carp fishing with particles could be developed. It wouldn't be hard to redsign the bend to hold a particle, but getting and maintaining a hookhold would probably be a challenge.

It's difficult to imagine anything that could be quite so radical as the Hair-Rig. It totally changed the way we fish - not only for carp, of course - and although there have been thousands of variations on it, nothing has bettered it. OK, so today's rigs bear little resemblance to the original hair-rig, but they still use the bait-off-the-hook system, which is essentially what the hair is, of course. I think there will be lots of other weird and wonderful rigs and methods, designed to improve our catch rates, by fooling the fish, but I can't see any of them employing a method that does not include the Hair-Rig.
BUT, who would have thought you could ever improve on Mitchell 300's or Abu 55's or Tri-cast rods. Technology has moved forward so fast in the last 50yrs, that maybe something will come about, that we cannot even imagine, right now.
